He’s done it again. John Maxwell’s book The 5 Levels is a wonderful journey through the different levels of leadership.

It all starts when you show some potential and you get a promotion. There you go, you’re a leader. Well at least in title. So where do you go from there? You will learn this and so much more when you read the book.

The 5 Levels of Leadership are;
1.Position - People follow because they have to.
2.Permission - People follow because they want to.
3.Production - People follow because of what you have done for the organization.
4.People Development - People follow because of what you have done for them personally.
5.Pinnacle - People follow because of who you are and what you represent.

You get the tools and actions required for you to progress from the Position level to the Pinnacle level of leadership.

This book will not only guide you through the steps of becoming a better leader, it will inspire you to become a better leader!

As I read The Go-Givers I kept replacing Joe with my name because I thought Bob Burg and John David Mann were talking about me.

Like Joe, I had found myself in his situation - behind on sales at the end of the quarter, desperately trying to land that one deal to put him back on track.

What I didn’t have was Pindar, the legendary consultant to take me under his wings.

Fortunately, by reading the Go-Givers, I found out the power of being a Go-Giver instead of just being a go-getter.

I have been using the power of giving for years and the Go-Givers has now given me the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success that will take the power of giving to a new level.

By focusing on giving and putting others’ interests first by continually adding value to the lives of others I am now achieving higher returns and you will to.

“None of us are as smart as all of us.” --This is very true. That's why being in a group is very important. But, you also have to choose the right group for you. Also, being in a group allows you to encourage and be encouraged by others.

This is a very substantial article. Thank you for this!

I subscribe to several. In order to save time I set up a separate email account where I only have my newsletters and blogs that I like to follow.

Some of these include;
Seeds for success (www.success.com)
Brian Tracy
Jim Rohn
John Maxwell's Word of the day
Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership

There are many good ones out there.

I would also recommend downloading podcasts from iTunes if you have an iPhone, or iPod.
There are several good ones on there as well.
Dave Ramsey's Entreleadership is one I am really enjoying.

WOW Roger, thank you for your very kind post discussing John David Mann's and my nweest book. In terms of the set-up and structure you so graciously highlighted that's all John. He is a master of the written word and so many other areas that make a book as you so kindly pointed out comfortable to read. During the writings of the two books, I often counted my blessings for having the opportunity to work with such a gifted wordsmith.I also feel very fortunate that you and your family have embraced the book, and been a genuine and authentic source of inspiration in terms of what being a Go-Giver is truly about. You're always there with a helpful suggestion or an encouraging word, and both are always appreciated. So, all-in-all, this is simply my long-winded way of saying thank you!!Bob

Excellent advice, I too am a Dave Ramsey fan. It's nice to know there are companies out there that not only know how to be fiscally responsible, but are willing to seek out ways to maintain that responsibility. Good on you!

Great post Phil as usual. I would add a point 1.5 that people need to have the sioivn to see if the organisation they work for doesnt accept change/new direction/suggestions; if you find that you cant become a lynchpin (UK spelling, Two nations divided by a common language and all that ) and you are not barking mad' then the organisation is closed'.So whilst your career may have become nothing more than just a job' , simply moving organisations to a more learning' and open organisation can kick start it right back into a career again. Some organistions just stifle and crush creative people and you (the worker!) need to understand and recognise this and make the decision on when to cut and run' I had a career that due to organisation changes became a job' for 3 years, and it was 3 years of hell I now have been hunted back into an organisation that appreciates what I bring to the table. Once again I have a career and with it a new lease of life again.
